PU organises ‘Interactive Discussion’ with Afghan students
LAHORE:Punjab University's Pakistan Study Centre (PSC) organised an ‘Interactive Discussion’ with Afghan students and faculty of University of Lahore on ‘Pak-Afghan Relations: Current Scenario’.
On this occasion, Director PSC Prof Dr Naumana Kiran, Associate Professor Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi, 15-member Afghan students’ delegation, studying at Centre for Security, Strategy & Policy Research, University of Lahore, faculty members and students of PSC were present. Afghan students appreciated efforts of the government of Pakistan to provide scholarships to them to study in Pakistan.
Dr Naumana Kiran welcomed the participants and said that people-to-people contact could bridge the gaps and reduce misunderstandings among both the nations. Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi appreciated the initiative of the government of Pakistan to offer scholarships to the students from Afghanistan. He advised the Afghan students to focus on the studies and contribute towards the fostering of relationships between the two neighbours.
Literary criticism session
Punjab University's Library arranged a standout meet, the author session, featuring renowned Urdu scholar and Professor at Government Islamia College Civil Lines Lahore, Dr Aurangzeb Niazi.
The session explored the intricate nexus between literary criticism and environmental studiesfocusing on his latest work. Dr Niazi’s exploration extends beyond the human realm to encompass all living beings, promoting a society where humans, animals, trees, birds and other manifestations coexist as equal citizens. He eloquently points out that the yardstick for environmental studies in literature is fundamentally Western and sheds light on the self-directed deviation from Western literary norms within Urdu texts. On this occasion, PU Chief Librarian Dr Muhammad Haroon Usmani, Dr Mir Waheed Akhlaq from KIU, students from KIU Gilgit-Baltistan were also present. The students engagement underscored the PU Library's commitment to creating a platform for varied voices and fostering an inclusive intellectual community.
