Rawalpindi : Rawalpindi Medical University has organised a number of activities including international scientific conference, workshops and symposia in connection with the golden jubilee, the 50th anniversary of Rawalpindi Medical College from today (Sunday) to December 24.
Over the past five decades, Rawalpindi Medical University has grown from a medical college into a premier institution of medical education and research. Its commitment to academic excellence, practical training, and healthcare services has made a significant impact in Pakistan and beyond. RMU continues to strive for innovation and excellence in medical education, shaping the future of healthcare in the region. The journey of RMU began as Rawalpindi Medical College, which was established in 1973, initially in Faisalabad, and then the campus was moved to Rawalpindi. Professor Abdul Latif was the founder Principal of RMC. Since then, the college has been a leader in the medical education and providing excellent clinical services in public sector in the northern part of the Punjab province.
In 2017, the Government of Punjab acknowledged the RMC’s contributions and progress by upgrading it to a full-fledged university in May 2017, with Professor Muhammad Umar (SI), as its founding Vice-Chancellor. This transition not only expanded the academic horizons of the institution but also positioned it as a leading medical university in the country. The RMU has been critical to providing healthcare to the public sector in Northern Punjab via its three teaching hospitals including Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District Headquarter Hospital.
