Two people were killed, and another was injured in a shooting incident that took place in Nazimabad No 2 on the night between Friday and Saturday.

Rescue workers transported the casualties to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the deceased were identified as 45-year-old Tariq Qureshi and 35-year-old Kashif Hussain.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Tariq, associated with the copper business, and his wife were returning home from a wedding ceremony via an online taxi service when motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire. The resulting violence claimed the lives of Tariq and the taxi driver Kashif, while Benish suffered injuries.

The injured woman is a relative of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Faisal Shaikh.

The family emphasised that Tariq had no personal enmity or affiliations with any political or religious party. Tariq's funeral prayers were offered on Saturday, and he was laid to rest in a local graveyard. The body of the deceased taxi driver was handed over to his family, which arrived in Karachi from Punjab for the burial process.

According to District Central SSP Faisal Abdullah Chachar, armed motorcyclists targeted them near the Nazimabad inquiry office. The crime scene unit reported that firing occurred from both sides of the car, with Tariq receiving at least nine gunshot wounds and the driver shot twice. Beenish, seated on the back seat, was shot once in her hand.

Despite witnesses confirming the armed motorcyclists' involvement, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Police investigators recovered three empty pistol shells from the crime scene and are yet to ascertain whether the incident was a targeted killing or a result of personal enmity.

The missing mobile phone of the deceased driver is another mystery to be solved by the investigators.
