A Security put on high alert in capital

Islamabad : The law enforcement agencies have been put on high alert after the security agencies seized heavy consignment of US made arms and ammunition at Torkhum border being transported to Pakistan from Afghanistan on Wednesday, the police sources said and added the number of police pickets in and outside Islamabad have been increased and armed police force have been deployed to counter any attempt of such activism.

The Federal Capital Police have heighten the security of sensitive installations, especially the Red Zone and personalities in the perspective of growing the wave of terrorism to amplify self-sufficiency in Islamabad Police avoiding dependency on borrowed forces, the top policeman with the police sources responsible for the security of the metropolitan city of Islamabad, said Wednesday.

The security of the Noor Khan Air Base at Benazir Bhutto Airport (old Islamabad International Airport) has been beefed-up to counter possible terrorism attempts, and decisions have been made to deploy security forces at the route of New International Airport Islamabad to the federal capital to provide protection to the foreign and national dignities landing at the Islamabad International Airport, the top cop maintained and added that the security of the metropolitan has been strengthened and the vigilance of the anti-state actors by additional installation of 2500 CCTV Cameras at the sensitive points in and around the city has been tightened.

“Prime areas of focus include strengthening security in the High Security Red Zone, requiring entry-exit checkpoints until the Extended Red Zone, and implementing the Extended Red and High Security Zone following the directive issued on 31st October, 2023. Moreover, recruiting efforts are critical, with pending recruitment for specialist units such as the Anti-Riot Unit (ARU). Notably, recruitment targets include 997 personnel for the Special Protection Unit (SPU), 550 posts for the Judicial Protection Unit (JPU), 2616 posts for Traffic Police, 900 posts for Dolphin Emergency Response Unit (DERU), and the approval of 500 female positions for the 1st dedicated Female Anti-Riot Unit. In terms of logistics, a proposal for the purchase of two water cannons, along with cost details, has been forwarded to the Ministry of Interior through the Chief Commissioner ICT in a communication dated 10.10.2022. These strategic initiatives are pivotal in fortifying the operational capabilities and infrastructure of Islamabad Police.

The people engaged in enhancing security to protect vital installing as well as the public, said, “In the realm of Safe City and Traffic, it is imperative to install CCTV cameras at all nodal points and police pickets of Islamabad to reduce dependency on manpower. Moreover, the installation of CCTV cameras on Margalla Road, resolution of the critical situation of the Data Centre of Safe City, Islamabad on a priority basis, revamping/upgradation, and installation of 2500 additional cameras, and the installation of cameras at Noor Khan Airbase and New Islamabad Airport are crucial initiatives. However, operations-wise, the installation of a fence on IJP road and CCTV cameras at the boundary of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, extension of jurisdiction of Islamabad up to New Islamabad International Airport on 07.11.2022, and making Greater ICT by engulfing Rawalpindi in it as one Administrative Unit under article 97, 149, and 151 of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 on 07.11.2022 are pivotal measures to address concerns and synchronize jurisdictions for internal security with the sensitive department, which would be strengthened with the passage of time.”
