Focus on Sialkot uplift, says CM
LAHORE : Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Sialkot Wednesday where he inspected Government Sardar Begum Civil Hospital and Allama Iqbal Medical Teaching Hospital.
Government Sardar Begum Hospital was found lacking in medical facilities, with damaged beds, damp walls, and an evident sewage stench due to passing of sewerage pipe inside the hospital while patients' attendants were compelled to sit on the floor in poorly maintained rooms.
The CM while announcing upgradation along with undertaking redesigning of the hospital stated that the hospital would also be upgraded with a budget of Rs210 million while 21,000 square feet area of the hospital would be upgraded.
Mohsin Naqvi visited various wards, inquired after the patients and inquired from them about the treatment facilities. He reviewed facilities in Emergency, ICU, Gynaecology, Lab, and other wards and expressed his indignation over poor condition of the classrooms. The CM listened to the issue of an elderly woman in the hospital and issued directions to the DC for its resolution.
Later, the CM visited Allama Iqbal Medical Teaching Hospital and evaluated the ongoing upgradation project of the hospital.
He inspected ongoing construction activities in the hospital and said that upgradation project of the hospital would cost Rs700 million and 65 percent upgradation work of the hospital was accomplished.
Later, in a media briefing, the CM said that Sialkot is an important a mega city of Punjab, adding that we are focused on the development of this city. He disclosed plans for a completely revamped hospital at a cost of Rs700 million, with one lakh square feet undergoing immediate upgradation. In the second phase, 50,000 square feet of the hospital will be upgraded. It is our utmost effort that the hospital should be opened to the general public by January 15.
Commissioner and DC will oversee its revamping. He said that the road from Airport Chowk up to sub line Chowk is in a dilapidated condition, adding that the construction and repair of this road would cost Rs1.6 billion. Work on this project will be launched from January 10.
C&W Department has completed the construction work on this 17km long road from Paki Gali up to Airport Chowk. This project will cost approximately more than Rs3 billion.
Under the city package, work on six big roads of Sialkot city is ongoing at a cost of Rs1 billion and this project will be completed within 20 days. CM said that he had assigned the name of ‘Hayat-e-Noh’ for the upgradation programme of the hospitals. He assured that the problems of the Sialkot journalist community would be solved.
Orders covering of manholes in City
The chief minister visited various areas within Lahore City, where he found manholes without covers. Mohsin Naqvi sought a report from Wasa MD and directed immediate action to cover the manholes.
