HARIPUR: District ameer of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Ghazan Iqbal Khan on Sunday said that the population of Haripur was deliberately shown less to deprive the district of a national assembly and provincial assembly seats.

Speaking at a news conference at the Haripur Press Club, he said that the total population of Haripur was shown as 11,74,783 in the census 2023 whereas registered voters were 718,219 and the difference of population and voters could be easily gauged.

“Our population is more than 1.5 million and the figures of the census clearly indicates the malafide intention of the government and some politicians who were opposed to sharing the power and deprived the district of a NA and a PA seat,” he said. To a question he said that his party was not going to cobble up an election alliance with any of the political parties, adding it was open to enter into seat adjustment with political groups and parties at Haripur level.

He announced the party candidates for the election 2024 according to which Ghazan Iqbal Khan would contest from NA 18 Haripur, Khalid Riaz Tanoli from PK-46, Awan PK-48 Faisal Awan and Hafeezur Rehman from PK-48.
