Moot pays tribute to late faculty member
LAHORE:A four-day conference on ‘Gender, Piety and Secularity: Conversations with Saba Mahmood (1962-2018)’ started at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) here on Sunday.
Organised by the LUMS Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities & Social Sciences, the conference is being organised to honour the memory of the late anthropologist Saba Mahmood. The conference marks five years since Prof Saba passed away.
During the next three days, there will be multiple sessions, including discussions at the conference. The speakers will talk about research influenced by Prof Saba's work. The conference will conclude on December 13, with a special tribute to Prof Saba at Alhamra Arts. Prof Shahzad Bashir from Brown University, a historian, delivered the keynote on the inaugural day of the conference titled ‘Seeking Knowledge & Being in Early Colonial South Asia.’
