Islamabad: Gogi Studios founded by Nigar Nazar, the first Asian female cartoonist in collaboration with ‘The Migrant Project’ conducted the launching ceremony of the awareness campaign ‘Amplifying Women’s Voices in Migration Decision Making’ on Thursday.
The event took place on the double-decker bus managed by the Tourism Development Corporation of Pakistan (TDCP), starting from Allama Iqbal Park.
The Gogi Studios convoy arrived at Islamabad Model College for Girls (Postgraduate) F-7/2, Islamabad. An art competition was organized among students to showcase their creativity through written words, visual arts, and graphics, bringing attention to the stories, challenges, and triumphs of women migrants.
This multidimensional competition aimed to make them the voice for those whose stories needed to be heard. The programme commenced with a recitation and welcome note by Somia Sohail, the focal person of the institution, followed by opening remarks from Ms. Sabeen Naz, an international award-winning educationist and remedial therapist, who is also the program organizer at Gogi Studios. Ms. Nigar Nazar, the first Muslim female cartoonist addressing various social issues in Pakistan and abroad, delivered a presentation and talk. She has been a strong advocate for women's empowerment, gender equality, and feminism. Her comical character, GOGI, represents women's issues in a visually impactful way, and she recently received the highest presidential award, ‘Sitar-e-Imtiaz,’ for her noble contributions. Informational visual brochures and souvenirs were distributed among the students.
Prof. Dr. Fauzia Tanveer Sheikh, the Principal of Islamabad Model College for Girls (Postgraduate) F-7/2, Islamabad, provided closing remarks. Prizes were distributed among the competition winners in various categories, and the institute's principal received a shield as a token of appreciation for their support. The awareness campaign by Gogi Studios Team members; Numair, Areeba, Dr. Sajjad, Nabeel, Farwa, Sajjad & Zil- e- Huma proved to be fruitful. Students presented their work along with their stories and ideas.
