ISLAMABAD: Former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Friday met Awami National Party (ANP) leader Aimal Wali Khan and discussed current political situation amid upcoming general elections scheduled to held on February 8.

The meeting took place at Zardari House in Islamabad. PPP leaders Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari and Faisal Karim Kundi were also present on the occasion.

According to sources, political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also came under discussion.

The sources said it was decided that provincial chapters of both the parties will hold the meeting in next days to take up the initial discussion on possibilities of seat adjustments as well as electoral alliance in KP.

Meanwhile, Asif Zardari, in a statement, said that in the history of modern world, no party has made more sacrifices than the PPP for the implementation of its manifesto. “The PPP has continuously moved forward and learned from its experiences, thus we are ready to serve the people of Pakistan with a renewed zeal and sense of duty,” he said.

Zardari said the PPP has always made efforts to solve the problems of the common man in the past years, as, since its inception, the motto of its founding revolutionary leader Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, “Roti, Kapra Aur Makaan” has been integral to the core values and ethics of the PPP, for the fulfilment of which the party has made countless sacrifices.

“The blood of the martyrs is also included in the party’s foundation,” he added.

The former president said that complete digitisation of important departments such as Food, Education and Health was essential to ensure transparency and effective governance. “This is because these departments provide essential services for the welfare of the common man,” he added.

He further said that anti-harassment laws should be strengthened and their implementation should be ensured so that the women in our society are given the opportunity to work without any fear or prejudice.

“The PPP has always been the flag-bearer of women’s rights and the party gave the Islamic world its first woman prime minister, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto,” he said.
