Volunteers great asset to country, says governor
LAHORE:Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman appreciated the winning team of International Volunteer Day CERTs challenge-2023.
He was the chief guest at the award distribution ceremony of International Volunteer Day CERTs Challenge held at Emergency Services Academy here Friday. Female Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) of Government Associate College for Women, Kasur, got the first position in the 7th International Volunteer Day CERTs Challenge, CERT team Gujranwala secured second position and Chahat Scout Team Gujranwala remained third position.
The CERT challenge was organised at the Emergency Services Academy in collaboration with an oil company. A total of 59 CERTs/ Volunteer teams from across Pakistan, including a team from China participated in the three-day challenge.
Addressing the ceremony, the governor said volunteers are great asset to our country. He praised the work of the rescue team in Turkey's earthquake operations conducted recently. The acclaim for this service was not only in Republic of Turkey but also internationally, which a matter of pride for all of us.
The governor, along with the Secretary of the Education and Sports Department (ESD), presented the winning trophy, certificates, and a cash award of Rs500,000 to the team of Government Associate College for Women, Kasur. The second position holder of Gujranwala CERT teams received a cash award of Rs300,000, a trophy, and certificates, the third position went to Chahat Scout of Gujranwala, who received a cash award of Rs100,000, certificates, and a trophy. A cash award of Rs25,000 was presented to each individual, including Amir Mushtaq for the best Life Saver Training Award, Atiqur Rehman (Media Coordinator, Bahawalnagar) for the Best Video Awareness Award, Anser Ali (Senior Safety Instructor) for the Best Community Training Instructor Development award, and Syed Najam Kazim for the Best Community Services Instructor Award. The best community initiative cash award Rs1,000,000 was presented to Miss Rubina Shakeel.
MoU signed on students’ summer programme
University of Engineering and Technology (UET) and a game development studio on Friday signed an MoU to build a long-term relationship and to develop sustainable arrangements between the parties.
According to the agreement, Mindstorm Studio shall invite UET students to its annual summer programme and other associated game-building initiatives. The studio will not only arrange training, internships, and recruitment drives for the students of UET but also co-supervise them in Final Year Projects. It will also help, assist, and support UET in development of course, content, information material, training, etc. UET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman and Director of Labs Mindstorm Studio (Pvt) Ltd Yaser Amir Awan signed the documents.
