‘Timely first aid key to avoiding serious injuries’

LAHORE: The significance of First Aid was highlighted on the third day of Punjab Institute of Sports Sciences training course at National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday.

Level-3 certified trainer M Faisal Abid in the first session delivered an insightful lecture on first aid and said that timely and effective first aid played an important role in avoiding serious injuries in sports events.

He also taught the participating divisional coaches about the types of sports injuries and risk management, evaluation of injuries and causes of sports injuries.

In the second session, Faisal threw light on the topic of Sports Nutrition and Athletics Performance. He said that it is a fact that the well-nourished athletes usually present title-winning performances more frequently than others do. “Our coaches must guide their athletes to utilise their nutrition in accordance with modern research with regard to their age group, game, environment and physique as well,” he advised. After theoretical sessions, the IAAF Level 4 Coach Tariq Sidhu supervised the practical session of all divisional coaches of the province at Punjab Int’l Swimming Complex.

Sidhu involved the divisional coaches in physical exercises and highlighted the significance of physical workouts and exertions. It is worth-mentioning that Youth Affairs Department Punjab is conducting a week-long Punjab Institute of Sports Sciences training course for imparting modern training to divisional coaches of the province.

Punjab Institute of Sports Sciences Principal Chand Parveen, Chief Instructor Hafeez Bhatti and Instructors Shaista Qaiser and Sajid Ali were also present on this occasion.
