Veteran journalist Ajmal Dehlvi passes away
Senior journalist and former Muttahida Qaumi Movement senator Ajmal Dehlvi passed away on Friday after a prolonged illness in Karachi. He was 87.
Dehlvi is survived by a widow, three daughters, and a son. According to his family sources, Dehlvi’s funeral prayers were offered at Rehman Mosque, Nazimabad No 4, after Asr prayers, and he was laid to rest at Muhammad Shah Graveyard in North Karachi.
Ajmal Dehlvi was also the founder of local Urdu daily newspaper named “Amn”. He was one of the senior editors in Urdu journalism. He used to write a column in Daily Amn under the name Jumma Khan.
Rizwan Tahir Mubeen, who wrote a comprehensive profile of Dehlvi after his interview in 2017, told The News that Dehlvi was born on August 14, 1936, in Delhi, and he was the eldest among four siblings. His father passed away when Dehlvi was just seven-year-old. After Partition, Dehlvi migrated to Pakistan with his grandfather.
He graduated from the City College. In 1956, he got his first job at the “Muslim” newspaper, and later he joined the evening newspaper “Nauroz.” After that, he worked as sub-editor” in “Anjam” before moving to Daily Jang. Later, he started his newspaper “Aman”. Dehlvi also became a senator on the MQM-P ticket in March 1997.
