LAHORE: The 27th meeting of the monitoring authority of the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA) was held here under the chairmanship of the caretaker provincial health minister Prof Dr Javed Akram.
PHOTA Director General Prof Dr Shehzad Anwar presented the contents of the agenda to the minister for approval. Dr Fahad Abbas, the brother of late Riffat, who saved three human lives by donating her organs, also participated in the meeting.
Tribute to late Riffat for saving three human lives during the meeting was presented and prayers for forgiveness were also offered. The minister said that an MoU would be signed soon with Nadra for the registration of human organ donors. The person who donates his organs will be registered in the national identity card. After the declaration of brain death, the organs of the donor are removed. The summary will be sent to the chief minister for approval of the grant towards the expenses of the transplantation for the PHOTA. During the meeting, PHOTA was allowed to recruit employees on short-term contracts subject to the approval of the Election Commission, and the Department of Inspection and Registration of PHOTA was given approval to register various public and private hospitals.
