Cop martyred in Nowshera attack
NOWSHERA: A cop was martyred in an armed attack in the Akora Khattak town of the Nowshera district here on Thursday, police said.
District Police Officer (DPO) Nasir Mehmood confirmed the incident to the media and said it happened near the mausoleum of the nationalist poet , Ajmal Khattak, on the Muhajir Bazaar Road.
Giving the details,he said the Ababeel Squad of the police was busy in snap checking near a graveyard when the cops asked a suspected person to stop. The suspect, who was at a short distance, instead opened fire on the cops, leaving a policeman, Fawwad Khan, seriously injured. The wounded cop was rushed to the Qazi Hussain Ahmad Medical Complex but he succumbed to injuries at the health facility.
The funeral prayer for the fallen cop was offered at the Police Lines which was attended by police and other officials. He was laid to rest at his native graveyard.
