Postgraduate classes for doctors being started at DHQ hospitals

LAHORE: On directions by Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, postgraduate classes for doctors are being started at district headquarters (DHQ) hospitals in the province for the first time in the history of Pakistan.

Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Dr Jamal Nasir revealed this while talking to a delegation of Young Doctors Association, Punjab, which called on him under the leadership of its president Dr Shoaib Niazi on Wednesday.

The health minister said that with the collaboration of Pakistan College of Physicians and Surgeons, post-graduation of doctors was being started in the district headquarters hospitals at Attock, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Mandi Bahauddin and Jhang.

As a result of this initiative, services of specialist doctors will be available to the people in the less developed districts of the province, he added. The minister revealed that the Punjab Health Department has made Hematology a part of Pathology and post-graduation in clinical Hematology will be started under central induction policy.

The minister said that new posts will be created for Hematologist doctors and blood banks would be operated under the supervision of hematologist doctors. The caretaker health minister congratulated Dr Shoaib Niazi on his election as the President of YDA and hoped that the Young Doctors will work as per the vision of the chief minister to provide better treatment facilities to the citizens.
