The District Central police on Wednesday announced the arrest of suspects involved in the murder of an intelligence official in the Nazimabad area a few days ago.

In a statement, the police said all the suspects involved in the murder near the AO Clinic within the Nazimabad police station’s limits had been arrested. On November 12, a government official was shot dead by three suspects near the AO Clinic in Nazimabad No 4. The martyred civil servant, Tanveerul Hasan, son of Syed Ameer, along with his fellow government official Qasim Ali, son of Zulfiqar Ali, was present in Nazimabad No 4 when the murder took place, the statement read.

After the incident, the Nazimabad police collected evidence from the spot and registered the case 500/2023 under the sections 302/23 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

On the instructions of the District Central SSP, the Nazimabad police arrested all the three suspects involved in the murder. They were identified as Younus Khan, Nauman Akram and Muhammad Ali.

In the initial investigation, the suspects revealed they were part of a gang involved in dozens of street crime cases. The arrested suspects identified Wahab, Faisal Sajjad and Fawad as other members of the gang.

The arrested men revealed that they had approached the government servant with the intention to mug him. However, when they saw that the government servant was carrying a weapon, they were panicked and opened fire on him.

The suspects fired three bullets at the officer, which proved fatal. They fled the scene immediately after the incident. At the time of the incident, Younus was driving the motorcycle and wearing a turquoise shalwar kameez. Nauman was sitting in the middle and Ali was sitting behind him.

The officer was shot by Ali. The motorcycle used in the crime has been seized from the possession of the accused. The police said they were making efforts for the recovery of the weapon used in the crime.

The criminal record of the arrested suspects has also been obtained. Younus was earlier arrested in a case under the Arms Act registered at the North Nazimabad police station, while Nauman was arrested in a case registered at the Site A police station and had also gone to jail. Ali was earlier arrested in cases registered at the Nazimabad and Orangi Town police stations. Further investigations are under way.
