3 more Shangla coal miners die in mishaps

ALPURI: Three coal miners from Shangla district died in two separate mishaps in Sharg area of Balochistan and Hyderabad area of Sindh.In Lakra Coalmines at Hyderabad, Farhad Ali and Najibullah were fatally injured due to a collapse. They belonged to Shahpur Dherai area in Shangla’s Alpuri tehsil.

Meanwhile, Shakir, another miner hailing from Shangla, died in a coalmine mishap in Sharg area of Balochistan last night. Shangla, home to thousands of miners, lacks registrations and any other facilities for miners. A survey conducted in 2013 revealed that over 65% of the population in Shangla is directly dependent on coal mining, but there are no hospitals, schools, or other amenities for their families.
