WFME accreditation marks new heights in medical education
Islamabad : A monumental step towards enhancing the quality of medical education in Pakistan was taken as President WFME, Prof. Ricardo León-Bórquez, convened with Federal Minister for Health, Dr. Nadeem Jan, and PM&DC President, Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj, in a high-level meeting cum reception held at PM&DC headquarters.
During the gathering, the esteemed attendees discussed vital aspects of medical education in Pakistan, shedding light on the groundbreaking achievements in this domain.
Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Nadeem Jan, commended Pakistan's swift response to meet WFME recognition requirements. He emphasized PM&DC's commitment to embracing new trends in medical education and providing quality training to medical students. Dr. Nadeem Jan also announced plans for daycare facilities in offices, promoting work-life balance for female medical professionals, and enhancing the patient-doctor relationship.
President PM&DC, Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj, highlighted the significance of WFME recognition for the PM&DC and its Accreditation Programme. This recognition now enables graduates from PM&DC-licensed colleges to pursue training and work opportunities in the USA and internationally without restrictions.
Prof. Dr. Taj underscored the pivotal role of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) in setting global standards for medical education. He emphasized the importance of proper training to ensure that medical professionals are well-prepared to deliver high-quality healthcare services.
President WFME, Prof. Ricardo León-Bórquez, expressed his appreciation for PM&DC's efforts in aligning with international standards. He applauded the proactive approach taken by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council in improving the medical profession.
This development will safeguard the future of Pakistani doctors who aspire to pursue careers and training abroad. PM&DC, after completing mandatory requirements, is now eligible for WFME recognition of its Accreditation Programme, paving the way for Pakistani medical graduates to excel on the global stage.
In preparation for this prestigious recognition, PM&DC organized workshops nationwide with the participation of 124 colleges. A dedicated WFME accreditation cell, comprising experts from across Pakistan, worked diligently to fulfill all the requirements of the WFME application, ensuring that medical institutes in Pakistan uphold the highest standards of education and training.
This historic achievement signals a new era of excellence in Pakistani medical education, with the potential to further harness the country's vast pool of medical talent and promote a brighter future for healthcare in the region.
