Students urged to focus on high quality research
PESHAWAR: Speakers at a one-day workshop on hybrid breeding of goats, stressed the need for adopting the latest means to increase meat and milk production to meet the increasing need in the country.
The workshop was organised by College of Veterinary Sciences, Agriculture University Peshawar in collaboration with Society of Theriogenology and Reproductive Medicine (SFTRM) here on Wednesday.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Jahan Bakht was the chief guest on the occasion.The workshop was attended by faculty, students of the college of veterinary sciences, doctors, veterinary professionals and representatives of government and non-government organisations from across the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jahan Bakht said that there was no dearth of resources in the country.He stressed the need for working together for the collective well-being of the country and its people.
“We should come out of ‘I’ and adopt ‘We’ on the pattern of the developed nations. We should prefer national interests over personal ones. Only then we would be able to put the country on the track of development,” he said.
Dr Jahan Bakht urged the faculty and students to focus attention on high-quality research so that the farmers could get benefits and the country could get more and more resources of food.
He said the approximate number of goats in the country was around 80 million, which was insufficient in view of the population of the country.Dr Jahan Bakht stressed the need for enhancing the number of goats so that the people could get sufficient mutton and milk at affordable prices.
Former dean faculty of animal husbandry, Dr Sarzamin Khan, Dr Murad Ali Khan, Dr Ziaur Rahman, Dr Humayun Khan and others also spoke on the occasion.
