Two cases registered after celebratory firing over Afghan win
PESHAWAR: At least two cases were lodged in the Nasir Bagh police station as many resorted to aerial fire to celebrate the victory of the Afghan cricket team against Pakistan in the world cup match.
Afghanistan registered it’s first win against Pakistan in a One Day International and that too in a world cup. Reports said a large number of Afghans settled in Peshawar celebrated the victory of thier national cricket team. Local population also lauded thier performance in the match and congratulated Afghans for the win, though it was against thier own team.
However, police lodged at least two FIRs in Nasir Bagh, an area where a large number of Afghans reside, after reports that a number of shots were fired in the air to celebrate the cricket win. It was not known if any other case was lodged in other police stations.
Police said they had arrested many in past months for the same crime of celebratory fire when Pakistani team had won any important match.
“Two FIRs have been lodged and accused arrested for aerial firing in the limits of Nasir Bagh Police Station, “ superintendent of police Warsak division Arshad Khan told reporters. One of the held accused is said to be from Landi Kotal and not Afghan while the other could not be identified.
In similar actions, several locals were held in the past years for aerial firing to celebrate the win of the Pakistani cricket team in any important contest.
