‘15,417 vacant posts of cops to be filled’

In order to finalise TORs of new recruitments in police at all levels, revamping and proper utilisation of PQRs, rationalisation of the vacant sanctioned posts across the board, review of the service structure and promotion procedure of Special Protection Unit and to improve the performance of mounted police were the agenda points which were discussed in a meeting held at Central Police Office under the chairmanship of IG Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera.
The meeting decided to present the legal recommendations to the government regarding the recruitment in Punjab police, its procedure, fixing of age limit from 18 to 20 and retirement age for constables 50 years, head constables 53 and for ASIs 55 years.
It was discussed that recruitment at all 15,417 vacant posts of constables of all units will be filled within the sanctioned 121,304 posts and 2,409 of head constable’s vacant posts within the sanctioned 17,988 posts.
In the meeting the service structure, promotion procedure and other benefits for the newly appointed officers/officials in Special Protection Unit (SPU) was also discussed in detail. Whereas, it was also decided to enhance the performance of the mounted police and patrolling by horses will be made on daily basis in major business points and sensitive places of big cities.
ACCIDENTS: At least 564 accidents were reported in Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours in which six lives were lost and 445 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts. However, some 214 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged on the spot after provision of first aid.
case registered: Naulakha Police Wednesday registered a case against four nominated people for the killing of two brothers on Branderth Road.
The case was registered on the complaint of victims’ father Arif against four people including Zain and Arshad. The victims’ were the nephews of SHO, Moghalpura, Mian Zaheer-ud-Din. The dead bodies were handed over to the victims’ family for burial. Police have yet to arrest the killers.
GUARD KILLED: A security guard was killed under mysterious circumstances in Hunjerwal police limits. The victim was identified as Ateeq, 22. Police said a rickshaw driver, Salamat Masih, came to a petrol station and exchanged harsh words with a salesman of the petrol station over an issue. In the meantime, the security guard reached there to settle the issue. Salamat exchanged harsh words with him and both started pushing each other during which the gun of the guard went off. As a result, Ateeq received bullet injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to injuries. Police arrested the driver.
ARRESTED: Police arrested seven bookmakers involved in gambling at cricket match between Pakistan and Bangladesh and recovered stake money from them. Police raided Johar Town and arrested the accused.
