RAWALPINDI: Lt-Col (retd) Zafar Abbasi Ghazi, the brave Pakistan Army officer who lost both his hands and legs while serving at the worlds' highest battlefront Siachen, passed away at the Combined Military Hospital in Rawalpindi on Saturday, family sources confirmed.

RAWALPINDI: Lt-Col (retd) Zafar Abbasi Ghazi, the brave Pakistan Army officer who lost both his hands and legs while serving at the worlds' highest battlefront Siachen, passed away at the Combined Military Hospital in Rawalpindi on Saturday, family sources confirmed.
The army officer's selfless bravery was immortalized in the minds of Pakistanis when his role was played as Captain Kashif in the popular drama serial 'Alpha Bravo Charlie', an ISPR production based on the real-life story of Lt-Col Zafar Abbasi Ghazi.
Then a Pakistan Army captain, Zafar Abbasi Ghazi caught frostbite and lost both his hands and legs while serving in Siachen in 1987, but refused to retire and continued serving and became Lieutenant Colonel.
In 'Alpha Bravo Charlie', his character was played by Major-General Abdullah Mehmood, who was also a serving captain in the Pakistan Army at the time the serial was shot and aired to critical acclaim.
