Shafqat Mehmood hopes Ayaz Sadiq will take everyone along

ISLAMABAD: Leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Shafqat Mehmood, the runner up in today’s election for National Assembly Speaker, has hoped that Ayaz Sadiq will as NA Speaker take everyone along.

Speaking form the floor of NA after the election of Ayaz Sadiq as the NA Speaker, Shafqat Mehmood said after being elected for NA Speaker’s office the winner is supposed to act above his party affiliation.

“The biggest challenge is to make the Parliament functional,” he noted, adding, a debate must be held in the Parliament over all the matters of national importance.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader, Dr Farooq Sattar greeted Ayaz Sadiq over his re-election as NA Speaker.

“Ayaz Sadiq’s tale is no different from ours,” the MQM leader claimed, adding, ‘we left the House, so did you. Then we both returned to the House on the same day.’

He said MQM also admires Shafqat Mehmood for maintaining the democratic tradition.

Earlier, Ayaz Sadiq secured 268 votes to reclaim his office of NA Speaker while Shafqat Mehmood of PTI received 31 votes.
