Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar resigns

LAHORE: Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar resigned from his post telling reporters at a news conference that he was not successful in solving the problems of people.

Mr. Sarwar claimed there was a ‘famine’ for truth in the country and that he had spoken to Rana Sanaullah about resigning four months ago. “I had decided that I was not able to achieve what I wanted to do for the masses.”

Chaudhry Sarwar said he had spoke to both Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and informed then that he wanted to resign. “I have no differences with the Sharif brothers,” Sarwar said.

Mr Sarwar said he had not been asked to resign but had rather done this out of his own accord. “I want to categorically say that there has been no contact between myself and my staff with the President or PM House. There was no clarification summoned on any statement I made.”

It has been reported that Sawar was asked to resign over a statement he made regarding US President Obama’s visit to India, having been told making statement’s on Pakistan’s foreign policy did not come under his jurisdiction.

During the news conference Sawart emphasised that it is his dream to work for the people of Pakistan but he had failed to serve this purpose as Governor Punjab.

Sarwar further said that injustice and problems of the poor were increasing in Pakistan, adding that he wanted to see a democracy in Pakistan where everyone and equal rights.

A former British MP, Sarwar had given up his British citizenship to serve Pakistan and had been appointed Governor Punjab.
