KARACHI: More than 70 percent areas of Karachi plunged into darkness after 500KV transmission line, supplying electricity to the metropolis, tripped near Jamshoro.

The spokesman said, “Our teams are working to restore power supply as soon as possible.”
The areas hit by blackout include Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Liaquatabad, Gulistan-e-JOhar, Shadman Town, Saddar Town, Lyari, Ranchor Line, Soldier Bazaar, PECHS Society, Lasbela, Guru Mandir, Garden, Mehmoodabad, Manzoor colony, Qayyumabad, Defence, Clifton, I.I Chundrigar, Tariq Road, Bahadurabad and others.
It is pertinent to mention here that after passing of more than four hours, power supply has not been restored.
A 72-inch diameter water pipeline burst at the Dhabeji pumping station after the power breakdown due to excess back pressure, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) executive engineer Lal Baksh Samoon told Geo News.
The pipeline burst also caused suspension of water supply to Karachi. According to Samoon, it could take up to 48 hours for the pipeline to be repaired.
