KARACHI: The designate mayor of Karachi, Waseem Akhtar has warned that in case the additional powers for Karachi’s mayor being demanded by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were not granted, the party will be left with no other option but to snatch them by any means.
The MQM staged a demonstration outside the office of Provincial Election Commission. The participants protested against the delay in finalizing Local government setup and demanded additional powers for Karachi’s mayor.
The designate mayor Waseem Akhtar, opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly Khawaja Izharul Hassan and other leaders delivered speeches on the occasion.
Waseem Akhtar accused the Singh government of shredding the Constitution to pieces by delaying the installation of LG setup.
Khawaja Izharul Hassan also slammed the Sindh government over the delay, saying the the Sindh government was dragging things with an aim to perpetuate corruption.
“If things were continued to be carried out on whims, the MQM will not let the Sindh Assembly session convene,” he warned.
