KARACHI: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Latif Siddiqui has been suspended for sending a covering letter for the publication of anti-Rangers advertisements in local newspapers on Tuesday.

It is pertinent to mention here that SSP Siddiqui is currently in Dubai with a joint investigation team (JIT) interviewing owners of the Baldia Town factory that was burnt down in 2012 killing at least 280 people.

Speaking in Geo News programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath’ on Wednesday night, Sindh Information Minister Nisar Khuhro said the advertisements in question were sent with a covering letter signed by the SSP investigation.

He said the information department of the provincial government did not enjoy authority of making changes or amendments in the advertisements. Khuhro vowed action against those with malicious intentions of creating rifts between the Rangers and Sindh government.

On Tuesday, the advertisements in question appeared in local newspapers seeking masses support to locate six missing citizens allegedly kidnapped by unknown Rangers personnel.

The advertisements read that the six missing persons had been taken away by unidentified Rangers personnel. The masses were urged in the ads to inform the DSP Orangi Town if they were aware of missing people’s whereabouts.

Earlier, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah also ruled out any quarrel or differences between police and Rangers, saying the two forces have rendered great services for restoration of peace in Karachi.

He also vowed action against culprits behind creating misunderstandings between the two.

Differences prevailed between the Sindh government and the paramilitary force for sometime, which were tried to bring back to normalcy by various steps taken by the provincial officials. However, things are back to square one after the anti-Rangers ads issue.
