Gilani granted interim bail in TDAP corruption case

KARACHI: An anti-corruption court on Monday granted interim bail to former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in all cases related to the multi-billion rupee Trade and Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) corruption scandal.

Interim bail was also granted to former PM House Deputy Secretary Muhammad Zubair.

The former prime minister appeared before the anti-corruption court today and his lawyer argued that Gilani was being politically victimised. Gilani was granted interim bail against surety of Rs100,000 each for 11 cases while Zubair was granted interim bail in nine cases.

The hearing of the cases against Gilani and Zubair has been adjourned till October 11.

Non-bailable arrest warrants were issued by an anti-corruption court on August 27 for Yousaf Raza Gilani and senior PPP leader Mahkdoom Amin Faheem for their alleged involvement in the TDAP corruption scandal.

The senior PPP leaders are accused of being involved in approving and disbursing fraudulent trade subsidies of millions of rupees to several fake companies through fictitious claims and backdated cheques.

On September 1, the Islamabad High Court granted seven-day protective bail to former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in eight cases of graft, including one into alleged corruption and financial misappropriation in TDAP.
