RAWALPINDI: General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff visited the Anti Narcotic Force (ANF) headquarters here today. The COAS was given a detailed briefing by Major General Khawar Hanif, DG ANF on various aspects related to ANF operations to counter drug smuggling.
During the briefing, DG ANF apprised the COAS of international and regional drug situation and its negative effects on our society including ANF’s Strategy and efforts for ensuring a ‘Drug Free Society’, challenges faced and Five Years Force Development Plan.
The COAS said that drug peddlers and those involved in its production are as equally detrimental to national security as terrorists. Drug money is being used for promotion of terrorism also and therefore it is important that drug dealers are dealt with iron hands, COAS emphasized.
“We will break the nexus between drug dealers, financiers and perpetrators of terrorism”. We will not allow these drug barons to negatively influence and spoil our future generations, the COAS reiterated.
The Army Chief appreciated the ANF’s endeavours on record seizures in 2014 and 2015 which helped in curbing the drug-menace domestically and internationally.
