RAWALPINDI: Model Ayyan Ali will be indicted in the currency smuggling case on July 13.
Upon completion of her judicial remand Ayyan was presented in the Customs Court of Judge Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan. The court extended her judicial remand till July 13.
The model was arrested from the Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad on May 14, 2015 with USD 500,000. She has been accused of illegally trying to take this amount outside the country.
During proceedings, Ayyan said she was not aware that taking a large amount of money out of the country was illegal. She pleaded that bail was not being granted to her while others had been granted bail. The model also dismissed reports that she was associated with a political personality.
Ayyan Ali’s bail petitions have been rejected twice by the District Court, once each by the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench and Lahore High Court.
If convicted Ayyan Ali can be sentenced under the Customs Act to a maximum of 14 years in prison and fine up to ten times what was in her possession.
