KARACHI: A young man wielding a sub-machine gun terrorised Karachi citizens on Tuesday when he randomly started firing aerial shots on a street in the upscale Defence neighourhood.
The jeans and T-shirt clad man, identified as Captain Sardar Syed Kashif Ali Chishti, first started firing his pistol in the air.
Chishti later snatched an SMG rifle from a security guard nearby and fired shots at least three shots into the windscreen of a vehicle on the road.
As panic gripped the area because of the gunshots, police reached the location but was unable to seize the weapons from the man.
Meanwhile, a local journalist tackled Chishti from behind following which policemen helped bring the man down.
Television footage showed the cops beating Chishti as they dragged him all the way to the Darakshan police station.
Police said Chisti, a pilot trainer by profession, is a resident of DHA's Khayaban-e-Badbaan and a drug addict.
They said that he had opened fire under the influence of drugs a few days ago, after which his father had registered an FIR at the local police station.
