RIYADH: Pakistani IT firm Axact allegedly sold 1,198 fake degrees to Saudis between 2011 and 2015, Arab News reported on Thursday.
Axact is being investigated by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) following a New York Times report which alleged that the company was a fake degree mill. Axact’s CEO Shoaib Shaikh and top officials have been arrested in the fake degree scandal.
According to the report the fake degrees were sold to Saudis at a cost of SR50,000 and SR100,000.
Saudi Arabia’s Embassy and cultural mission in Islamabad is following up with the fake degree scandal investigation in Pakistan. Saudi charge de a’ffairs Jasim Al-Khalidi said his government wanted to know the names of citizens who obtained fake degrees and those of Pakistani’s working in the Kingdom.
Pakistan’s charge de a’ffairs in Saudi Arabia said Islamabad would provide the names to the Saudi government once the investigation was complete.
