KARACHI: Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, the Ameer of Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chapter on Tuesday held the K-Electric (KE) responsible for the deaths of hundreds of citizens due to the persisting intense hot weather.
Addressing a press conference here, he said his party was consulting with its lawyers, announcing to file a petition against KE ‘for mismanagement’ in the court of law.
Rehman claimed that the agreement of KE's privatization was not shared with the people, saying the power distribution company had promised to increase electricity generation.
"Electricity consumers are being charged by K-Electric for producing electricity from furnace oil", the JI leader pointed out, therefore, he added, no justification can be presented for undertaking prolonged loadshedding.
He also accused the Sindh's ruling party Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) of privatizing the KE and held them responsible for the current situation in the metropolis.
"What to speak of dead, the facilities are almost non existent even for the citizens who are alive", he said.
He claimed the hospitals are being controlled by the political parties in the metropolitan city and no arrangements were made for the common people.
