ISLAMABAD: When Asif Ali Zardari was still President everyone wanted an audience with him. Now years later, or more specifically a few critical comments later, guests are looking for excuses to skip Zardari’s Iftar party.
Sources have confirmed that the Jamat-e-Islami (JI) will not be attending the Iftar party while the Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI-F) will decide once Maulana Fazlur Rehman arrives in Islamabad.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has claimed it was never invited to the former president’s iftar party.
Those who have confirmed their attendance include the Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) and the Awami National Party (ANP). The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is also likely to attend.
Earlier there were rumours that the Prime Minister had excused himself from attending the former president’s iftar party, but it was later denied by the PM house.
Interestingly, when asked about his attendance, the Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed responded that he will be breaking his fast in the mosque.
Update: A little after 4:00PM PMLN sources confirmed that one or two party representatives will be attending the former president’s iftar party.
