ISLAMABAD: Senator Sherry Rehman has criticised Prime Minister Imran Khan for endorsing India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of PM Narendra Modi to win polls.

In an interview with foreign media Tuesday, the premier said he thinks there may be a better chance of peace talks with New Delhi if Narendra Modi wins the general election.

Taking note of Imran’s support, the PPP leader said “it is unseemly for a sitting PM to state a preference for dialogue with a candidate from another country in the middle of their election”.

“Pakistan does business with states not individuals,” she added.

The PTI had in the past also accused former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for having close ties with Modi and seeking personal benefits from Indian leader.

“To say Modi will give us a better chance to talk is closing the door for others in India!,” the senator further tweeted.

Imran Khan said that if the next Indian government were led by the opposition Congress party, it might be too scared to seek a settlement with Pakistan over on the Kashmir issue, fearing a backlash from the right.

“Perhaps if the BJP – a right-wing party – wins, some kind of settlement on Kashmir could be reached,” the premier said while talking to a group of foreign journalists here. This was despite the massive alienation that Muslims in Indian Held Kashmir (IHK) and Muslims in general were facing under the BJP government, he added.
