ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said the decision to form military courts was made by a democratically elected government not a martial law administrator.
The prime minister met President Mamnoon Hussain and said cases against those spreading hatred and sectarianism would be heard in military courts. Prime Minister Sharif added that Pakistan faced major challenges such as the energy crisis and terrorism.
Prime Minister Sharif further said that a 20-point national action plan was formulated and the 21st amendment and amendments to the Army Act were passed. “Speedy justice is necessary to control terrorism and these decisions should have been taken earlier in the national interest.”
The prime minister spoke of successes achieved in Operation Zarb-e-Azb and stated that the command and control system of terrorists had been destroyed.
According to Prime Minister Sharif a gas pipeline from Iran to Gwadar would be constructed, while a decision had also been made for a pipeline from Gwadar to Nawabshah.
