ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Tuesday that the Election Tribunal’s decision on NA-125 was the basis for democracy in the country.
“The judicial commission is giving rise to a new tradition. Democracy in the country will be strengthened by the judicial commission decision and the basis of free and fair elections will set in Pakistan,” Qureshi told reporters.
The PTI leader further said that an independent Election Commission would now be formed and no one would dare try to rig elections as people would hold them accountable.
An election tribunal on Monday ordered re-election on Lahore's NA-125 constituency, a seat previously secured by Khawaja Saad Rafique of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the May 2013 general election.
The tribunal judge also ordered re-poll on the Punjab Assembly’s PP-155 constituency.
