KARACHI: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has sent two letters to the Election Commission of Pakistan complaining of irregularities during the by-election at Karachi's NA-246.
In the first letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, the JI stated that MQM workers did not have ECP-issued cards at the polling station set up at Riaz Girls College.
There is no privacy to cast votes and it does not seem as if the officials are in control of the polling station, alleged the complaint.
In the second letter sent the same day, the JI complained that irregularities were taking place at polling stations since the morning.
The letter said that polling began at 11:00AM at polling station numbers 11, 12, 13 and 14, while it was supposed to start at 8:00AM. It added that the seal of ballot boxes had been broken at polling station number 99.
The letter also claimed that polling staff was appointed on the wishes of the MQM who were responsible for intentional delays in voting.
