LONDON: During his over five hours long interview by the Metropolitan Police in connection with the money laundering case, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain was also interrogated on Dr Imran Farooq murder.
Sources told Geo News that Hussain was questioned over the murder of slain MQM leader for the first time.
Dr Farooq, a prominent member of the MQM was murdered in 2010 outside his house in London as a result of multiple stabs and a blow to his head.
Besides Sunday's arrest of a key suspect in the case from Karachi, British police had made two arrests in connection with the killing but both suspects were later freed on bail. They believe that Dr Farooq was under surveillance in the days and weeks before his murder.
Dr Imran Farooq was twice elected an MP in Pakistan, but went into hiding in 1992 when the government ordered a military crackdown against party activists in Karachi. He later claimed asylum in Britain in 1999.
During today’s interrogation at Southwark Police Station, questions were also asked regarding the MQM chief’s suspected ties with Sarfraz Marchant, Tariq Mir and M Anwar among others included in the ongoing probe.
