LAHORE: Former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif visited Lahore’s Services Hospital on Tuesday to inquire about the health of Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal.
He prayed for early recovery of the minister, who was wounded in an assassination attempt during a visit to his constituency in Narowal on Sunday.
A21-year-old man claiming to be the office bearer of a religious party was arrested along with his firearm used in the attack.
The suspect, who identified himself as Abid Hussain, confessed to his involvement in the crime, saying he wanted to target Ahsan Iqbal for government’s alleged attempt to amend an election declaration regarding finality of Prophet Muhammad (PUBH).
The interior minister, who was shot in his arm, was airlifted to Lahore, where he underwent overnight surgery. He is out of danger now.
