KARACHI: Condemnations poured in from across Pakistan on Sunday after Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Narowal.
Ahsan Iqbal was returning from a corner meeting in Kanjrur town of Narowal when he was shot at by a gunman.
According to medics and family, Ahsan Iqbal was out of danger after being shot in the right shoulder.
The suspected gunman, identified as Abid Hussain, was arrested along with his firearm.
Meanwhile, social media was flooded with condemnations and support for the minister.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan, PPP head Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and other leaders strongly condemned the attack on the interior minister.
In a statement, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has strongly condemned attack on Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal in Narowal adding that armed attack on the Interior Minister was an open challenge to the state.
The PPP Chairman that those involved in the firing on Ahsan Iqbal should be taken to task. He also prayed for his early recovery.
Senior journalist Hamid Mir said that the attack could be an attempt to delay the elections.
PTI spokesman Fawad Chaudhry also condemned the attack on Ahsan Iqbal.
"Culprits must be apprehended as soon as possible," he tweeted.
