LAHORE: Former President Asif Ali Zardari said Friday that PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif had weakened democracy by behaving like Prince Salim.
“Nawaz Sharif has harmed democracy. We served jail terms. Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had embraced martyrdom for the cause of democracy. But Nawaz Sharif destroyed our struggle and sacrifices by acting like Prince Salim,” Zardari told media persons in Lahore.
He warned that democracy was very fragile and anything could happen anytime.
To a question about the electoral alliance with Imran Khan during the Senate’s elections, the PPP president said that necessity was the mother of invention. “We made an adjustment when it was needed. And if any such need arises again, we may form an alliance,” he maintained.
“We are ready to sit on opposition benches or join the government. We had formed governments and know how to handle them. We are not fond of visiting the Prime Minister or President Houses. Those who haven’t been there appear to be in hurry.”
Responding to another question, Zardari said that Nawaz Sharif should be asked about aliens as he was the one who had been using them.
“Nawaz Sharif was with Hamid Gul during ‘changa manga’ episode He was also one of the central characters of Asghar Khan case. All the alien species had been supportive of him.”
The former president said that elections would be held as per schedule.
