ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has suggested names of former governor State Bank Dr Ishrat Hussain and ex-chief justice Tasadduq Hussain Jillani as caretaker prime minister.
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by PTI Chairman Imran Khan at his Bani Gala residence. Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been tasked to convey this to Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed who is consulting other political parties in this regard.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Khursheed Shah held the third round of the consultations over the name of caretaker prime minister last Wednesday and decided to continue consultation to finalise the caretaker set-up by the mid of May.
During the meeting, the prime minister and the opposition leader discussed different options for the caretaker set-up. The PM shared the opinion of the government and its allies with the opposition leader. Shah also presented two names to the prime minister for the caretaker PM.
Names of Ishrat Hussain and Tasadduq Jillani have been discussed in the power corridors as both command integrity and are highly regarded in their respective fields. In 2013, Pakistan People's Party proposed Ishrat Hussain as caretaker PM but PML-N turned down the proposal.
