He, however, couldn't confirm whether  the invitation  was extended by the Chinese to bury the hatchet.

But social media on Sunday was awash with pictures showing personal in Punjab police uniform enjoying a meal with foreigners identified by some users as Chinese engineers who had clashed with police.

According to unconfirmed reports, the Chinese engineers invited the police personnel to dinner where they apologized for their behavior.

Names of the Chinese nationals and police personnel were not immediately known.

Picture of an enraged Chinese engineer standing atop the bonnet of a police van which was widely circulated on social media, with a large number of people demanding  their guests respect laws of their country.

The pictures seemed more offensive to some people as they thought the Chinese national appeared to show no regard for Pakistan's flag that was printed on the vehicle right under his feet.
