Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi in a statement on Tuesday condemned recent clampdown by Indian forces on civilians in occupied Kashmir, urging the United Nations to intervene to stop the bloodshed.
This statement didn't go down well with Indian media which went into a frenzy and started criticising the flambouyant all-rounder for raising voice for the people of Occupied Kashmir.
Indian cricketer Gautham Ghambir criticized the former Pakistani captain on Twitter saying Afridi is "celebrating a dismissal off a no- ball!!!"
It was not long before Afridi's fans rallied behind him and launched a tit-for-tat response against the Indian batsman.
One of the prominent among them was Asif Ghafooor, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), who used his personal Twitter account to respond to criticism against Afridi.
Ghafoor shared a video of a past match in which Aridi led Pakistan to victory against India by hitting two consecutive sixes and a picture in which Afiridi is seen engaged in on-filed altercation with Gotham Ghambir.
"Shahid Afrid is our national pride and voice," Asif Ghafoor said in one of his tweets.
Shahid Afridi, who retweeted Asif Ghafoor's twitter post, also shared his picture with Indian fans holding and wrote: "We respect all. And this is an example as sportsman. But when it comes to human rights we expect the same for our innocent Kashmiris."
