'A man of honour always pays his debts': Aitzaz returns Rs10,000 to CJ's son
The Supreme Court imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on Ahsan for not appearing in a case pertaining to infant formula.
Senior lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan has returned Rs10,000 to son of Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, paid by him as fine imposed on Pakistan People's Party leader.
The Supreme Court imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on Ahsan for not appearing in a case pertaining to infant formula.
In a letter to CJ's son Najam Saqib, Aitzaz Ahsan said, `Your father, the honourable Chief Justiceof Pakistan, informed me during a court hearing on Saturday that you had paid a sum of Rs10,000 on my behalf for fine imposed on me by the honourable court for not appearing in a case on 9th March, 2018. That was most gracious of you.
`I had not intended to recognize the liability as I was on general adjournment allowed by your illustrious father, and the imposition being without notice.
`I therefore, enclose herewith a cash cheque No. 64099537 in the sum of Rs10,000 as reimbursement of the amount paid by you on my behalf.
Aitaza Ahsan who had engaged in a repartree with the chief justice after he was slapped with the fine, concluded the letter by saying "I leave it to your father to make this public or not, but it surely was the most effective way to obtain this amount from me".
The PPP leader had said that the court order damaged his reputation as he had never been slapped even a single rupee fine during his entire career.
The PPP leader argued that he was punished for his farewell speech in the Senate, urging the court to withdraw the fine.
Taking his remarks in a lighter mode, the chief justice said he can pay the fine from his own pocket on his behalf.
The chief justice last week told the lawyer that he has submitted the fine.
And when Aitzaz Ahsan turned to leave the courtroom during the hearing of the case, the CJ asked the court staff to give him receipt of the fine paid by him.
The chief justice told Aitzaz Ahsan the fine was actually paid by his son who said he would like to pay on behalf of his uncle (Aitzaz Ahsan).
