ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Senator Sherry Rehman has assumed office of opposition leader in the Senate.
Senator Sherry Rehman is the first female opposition leader in Senate and enjoys support of 34 senators.
She is the 12th Opposition leader in the Upper House of the Parliament and seventh opposition leader from PPP.
According to Geo News, notification for appointment of Sherry Rehman as Senate Opposition leader has been issued by Senate Secretariat on the directives of Senate Chairman.
Sherry, in a message of twitter, thanked party leadership, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Opposition parties that reposed confidence in her.
She also thanked Senators from FATA and Balochistan, as well as ANP and BNP(M) who have supported all the way. “I look forward to working with all opposition’, she said.
Before Sherry, PPP Senior leader Aitzaz Ahsan was serving as opposition leader.
