HANOI: In 2016 US President Barack Obama and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain had a dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant which has now preserved the table and the chair where the two sat down, to protect it from further harm.
Bourdain had treated the president to a $6 ban cha meal which consisted of grilled pork, herbs, rice noodle, dressing and dipping sauce at the Bun Cha Huong Lien restaurant.
Bourdain thinks Obama is very smart with the chopsticks and helped himself to a second serving.
This happened when Obama was on an official visit and Bourdain was shooting his food travelogue called ‘Parts Unknown’.
The Restaurant Bun Cha Huong Lien, included an Obama-inspired meal to their menu which was called ‘Combo Obama’ comprising of all the items that Obama had eaten- noodles, deep-fried spring rolls and a Hanoi beer.
In ode of Obama’s visit, the restaurant has sealed the table and the stools, which he had sat on with Bourdain, behind sealed glass. They have also sealed the cutlery that the two had used and the glass container too in which beer was served.
