The annual winter fishing festival on Lake Lianhuan in Northwest China has officially commenced. Around 10,000 fish is expected to be caught in the festival.
The event dates back to ancient times and is a yearly ritual. When a good amount of fish is caught, a traditional flaming ritual is set up.
The highest weighing net consists of 20 to 25 kg of fish while the lightest being 2.5 kg heavy.
The festival runs for a week and attracts large number of visitors who come to experience the culture of winter fishing.
