ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has described Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s accusation of interference in Gujarat elections as utterly baseless and irresponsible.
Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal, in a tweet, said India should stop dragging Pakistan into its electoral debate.
He went on to say electoral victories should be made on one’s own strength rather than fabricated conspiracies.
Modi had accused Pakistan of trying to meddle in the Gujarat assembly elections, linking it to a dinner hosted for a visiting Pakistani leader by Mani Shankar Aiyar, now suspended by the Congress, and which was attended by the former prime minister and other Congress leaders last week.
Dr Manmohan Singh, India’s former prime minister had also called Modi’s allegations “falsehood and canards".
He said "Fearing imminent defeat in Gujarat, desperation of Narendra Modi to hurl every abuse and latch on to every straw is palpable. PM Modi is setting a dangerous precedent by his insatiable desire to tarnish every constitutional office.
